The anaesthesia section discusses not just major surgery but includes the specific and subtle differences that exist in the diverse types of specialist cancer surgery. The pain section deals with the current status of several specific cancer pain problems with contemporary evidence and recent developments in management. This book also introduces novel ways of looking at conventional treatments such as the genetic aspects of opioid use. The book is clear and easy to read. As a full-text book, I recommend it, the authors present clinically useful and / or update basic knowledge at the expert level. The book is best suited for those who have basic knowledge of anesthesia management of cancer patients, and who wish to refresh themselves in selected topics. Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association The main contributors to this book are anaesthetists who have experience working at one of the major specialist cancer centres in the UK, the Royal Marsden. This gives rise to a credible and practical guide. There are very few sources within the literature addressing this expanding field and this book provides an excellent overview of perioperative care for cancer patients. About the Author
Paul Farquhar-Smith trained in anaesthesia, pain, and intensive care in Cambridge and London. He was awarded a PhD in Pain and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. His interests include sedation and delirium in intensive care, pain in cancer survivors such as chronic pain after surgery, and chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain.
Tim Wigmore is clinical lead for intensive care medicine at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Trained in intensive care medicine in Australia, his interests include microbiology and care of the haemato-oncological patient in intensive care.
