The large format (11.25 by 9.75 inches) gives writers plenty of room to scrawl down their thoughts and even offers ample space for adding personal artwork or gluing in cut-out images. Several pocket folders are bound into the back for carrying clippings, postcards, or dry leaves--whatever whimsy dictates. Because it is spiral bound (with a sturdy wrap-around cover), writers can lay the book flat while at work--a major convenience.

At first glance The Illustrated Discovery Journal may appear to be a simple book, and yet it holds a simple truth. We have forgotten as women, how profoundly beautiful we are. As we add the snippets of our lives and dreams to the waiting pages, a fairy tale unfolds before our very eyes. Sarah once again, in her brilliant simplicty is the fairy godmother who breaks the spell. She helps us find our beauty and truth beneath the beast that is reflected by the disappointments of our selves, our loved ones, our weight, our lost loves. We are all a glorious spirit waiting to be brought to life. Thank you Sarah for taking the risks to let us love ourselves for who we are, the glorious children of God.

He has worked extensively on mortgage-backed securities product development, valuation and hedging. He is president of Andrew Davidson & Co., Inc., a New York firm specializing in the application of analytical tools to investment management, which he founded in 1992.

Andrew Davidson is also co-author of Mortgage Valuation Models: Embedded Options, Risk and Uncertainty; Securitization: Structuring and Investment Analysis; and Mortgage-Backed Securities: Investment Analysis and Valuation Techniques. He has contributed to The Handbook of Mortgage-Backed Securities and other publications.

He was previously a financial analyst in Exxon's Treasurer's Department. He received an MBA in Finance at the University of Chicago and a BA in Mathematics and Physics at Harvard.

Limited, but Very Good Nonetheless

This workbook was written as a companion to "Mortgage-Backed Securities" by Davidson and Herskovitz. Frankly, I think this book works much better on its own and I would recommend Fabozzi's "Handbook of Mortgage-Backed Securities" instead as a general guide to the subject. The workbook confines itself to a limited number of topics but it covers these very well. Beginning with simple cash flow and yield calculations, the authors move on to provide guidance on (simple!) prepayment modelling, basic structuring, the yield curve and regulatory tests. The approach is attractively practical, and I think of this text as a useful secret weapon to have up one's sleeve.

Excellent book; stands on its own

While you can use this workbook with the text, it is also very useful by itself. In fact, I didn't know it was a companion to a book until after I bought it.
The topics are covered in enough detail to answer all those small questions I have. In addition, it's the only book I've found that leads the reader through the details of building a simple prepayment model. There are some advanced questions in the book for more mathematically inclined readers.

Linear Programming: Methods and Applications: Fifth Edition

This book is excellent for everyone who is studying Linear Programming. What is especially useful is the large number of references that are included at the end of each chapter. The second thing is the inclusion of introductory material in chapters 1 to 4 for the first time student. The third thing that is good is the inclusion of many applications, making the book very useful for the experienced student of Operations Reserch. The fourth is the abundance of exercises at the end of each chapter. I strongly recommend this book for students, especially those who are from disciplines outside Mathematics, who will use computational techniques of Linear Programming.

A solid companion

If you are really interested in Linear Programming this book makes a great resource. It also makes a good companion book if you are studying Operations Research, as the LP component is comprehensive. The book gives a good explanation of the revised simplex method and duality problems. Also,sensitivity analysis is explained and demonstrated in a very straightforward and easy to understand manner.

About the Author
Fiona Macbeth is currently Teaching Fellow in Drama at the University of Exeter, and Nic Fine now lives in South Africa where he is the Director of Hearts of Men - a programme working with young men at risk of violence and gang activity. They developed the first edition of Playing with Fire whilst working for Leap Confronting Conflict. Jo Broadwood is director of the Leap Academy of Youth and Conflict at Leap Confronting Conflict. She has considerable experience of youth and conflict work including the design and development of programmes for young people at risk and training programmes for practitioners. Carey Haslam and Nik Pitcher are both senior trainers at Leap and have many years of experience of designing and delivering youth and conflict programmes.

Very Good Dictionary

I love this dictionary because it contains multiple definitions for each word, including "figurative" definitions that often apply in literature. I primarily use the dictionary to help me understand new words and terms while reading books written in Spanish. I believe I learn more by using a dictionary of the Spanish language than by using a translating dictionary. It is interesting that it claims to be a dictionary of "Modern Spanish", but lists the letter "ch" separately. This can be a bit confusing when looking up a word containing "ch". My main complaint about the dictionary is the extremely small print. I guess this was necessary to make such a "large" dictionary fit into a small format.

A Spanish-only dictionary for the rest of us

My wife (from Monterrey, Mexico) and I (from Dallas, Texas) needed a Spanish-only dictionary. I have an excellent Spanish-English dictionary (the American Heritage), but that didn't work too well for her, and I had progressed far enough that I needed one that didn't refer back to English. I first bought her a piece of junk (the Diccionario Practico De La Lengua Espanola Del Nuevo Mundo); nothing we looked up was already there! It became quite clear to us that this was the most fundamental dictionary; anyone who spoke Spanish didn't need it.
Fortunately, this dictionary saved us. While still not as extensive as we might like, it's comprehensive enough that nearly everything we look up is in there. I'm still looking for the truly comprehensive Spanish dictionary she wants, but this is quite serviceable.
