Akbar Ahmed’s play highlights the complex issue of religious interpretation within a human context.

Akbar Ahmed is the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at the American University, Washington, DC, and in 2008 he was appointed Distinguished Chair for Middle East/Islamic Studies at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis. He is Pakistan’s former ambassador to Great Britain and was awarded the Heschel-King Award for Interfaith Activism on King Day 2009. He is the author of Journey into Islam: The Crisis of Globalization, published in June 2007.

Love these Scene-by-scene books

I am really loving reading these scene-by-scene books by John Ebert, and the enlightening approach he has to expanding the discourse and underlying meaning of these film epics. So that in slow motion the intellectual guns are brought to bear on the bunkered iconographic symbols, meanings and story, along with the mythical and archetypal nature of the roles and scenarios which are systematically exposed for all to see. The linkages to previous religious and historical myths and literary legends are explored and the story drawn out from ancient past, along with its underlying role based performances. What makes these books ideal is that for future 'Dungeons and Dragons' style role playing games which 'we' may find ourselves drawn into inreality, they make very good 'Manuals' of how the game is or was played (and replayed), what are the same traps to avoid, who the characters are, and what your intended role and fate may be in all this.
In this case John's pen has proved mightier than the lightsabre.

She is also interested in feminist and anti-racist pedagogy and women's leadership in higher education. Blue eyed Samurai: 1000 days in the young lions dormitory

I am a fan a of Nicholas Pettas's show on various Japanese Martial Arts and think he is articulate, friendly and entertaining.

For anyone who is a interested in martial arts this book really showed the hardship, personal growth and great reward of a person completely dedicated to learning his art and becoming a career martial artist and teacher. Nick really endured a lot with great strength of character and it paid off. It is also amazing to be the last live-in student of the Karate legend Mas Oyama and to hear first hand what that was like.

The Book was a very fast read and I buzzed through it in a couple of days.

I have one criticism of the size of the print on the paperback edition, it was very small and hard to read even with my bifocals, I have no idea what the publisher was thinking.

I've read martial arts bio's ranging from famous swordsmen, Tadaki, Yamaoka Tesshu, to founders like Jigoro Kano, Funakoshi, to modern day accounts by Ashihara, Aldo Nadi and UFC fighter's and "Blue Eyed Samurai" ranks among the best and most enjoyable reads. Petta's book is entertaining, informative, and, detailed.

I just started with kyokushin and this book was a fantastic motivational read that made me want to train harder!!! Just what i needed at the right time... Excellent story of someone following through on their goals, I could not put this book down until i ran out of pages.

Fascinating book...stunning information

Finally!! Some clarity is brought to the mystery of the return date for Nibiru. I loved this book as I have read many books on the return of Nibiru and this one is the most rational and thoughtful. Mr. Roest has done his research and gives the reader historical, astronomical and solid scientific evidence which reveals the returning cycles of Nibiru as it passes close to our planet earth. He pulls on many ancient texts, pictures and geological evidence for the dates of the cycles and the mystery of Nibiru is revealed. This is a book written for the lay person and I found it extremely interesting and informative. He is writing his next book now "The Unbelieving Bible" which should be out this year. I will be first in line for that one! Don't pass this one up....

Excellent Memoir of an American's Life in Pakistan

Bettie Addleton's book is a well-written, charming and detailed account of her life as wife of Hugh Addleton, a missionary to Pakistan. Combining humor and pathos, she focuses on her warm, close relationships with Pakistani women, her various homes, medical issues, holiday celebrations, food, their three children's education and many other facets of their life. She provides an insightful look at politics and customs in Pakistan from the 1950s onward for their 34 years in this rapidly changing country. This is not just a book for women, but will be enjoyed by men, and should be read by anyone contemplating marriage to a Pakistani person. It also is a fine read for book clubs.

Don't miss this fun read about life in Pakistan!

This is a fantastic book! Don't miss reading it yourself and certainly share it with others. The stories are fun, amazing, humorous, encouraging and God-honoring. And the author, well, she is a one-of-a-kind beautiful godly loving hopeful woman whose presence and hospitality you just never really want to leave. She's had Begum Nasrat Bhutto, the wife and mother of two of Pakistan's prime ministers, for tea at her table. Now she is inviting you to her table, too. Fix yourself a cup of tea, and get to know Bettie through the pages of this book. Get to know the people of Pakistan whom she loves and learn why she loves them. Be warned though: This book is also convicting! After reading its pages, you may just hear God calling you to love someone whom you never thought would be possible to love, maybe an estranged relative or maybe even your Pakistani co-worker or neighbor. Thank you, Bettie, for showing me the gentleness with which Christ loves and the significance of the sacrifice He has made for all of us. "We love because He first loved us" (John 4:19).

Delightful

Reading this delightful book reminds me of sitting down for a cup of tea and conversation with a dear friend. Mrs. Addleton brings a warm face to life in Pakistan and the Pakistani people.
