Cheesy title, not really a "How-To" Book

I purchased "fantasy females" sight unseen, and with some reservations considering the title. (I find it somewhat degrading to see women referred to as "raunchy"). As a drawing book I considered the book to be 'okay.' The artist covers a lot of different artistic styles from realistic to chibi, to computer-generated. There isn't a lot of drawing instruction in this book. Most of the pics are already fully sketched or in need of colorization only. There is a little too much discussion of poser for a drawing book. Also the illustrations are crammed on the pages with a lot of text, in such a way that I felt the book was poorly designed.

On the plus side, if you are looking for ideas on how to improve your art, and can already sketch the human figure this book might be the book you are looking for. Interesting, but ultimately not particularly useful, especially if you are looking for drawing instruction. If you are, there are better books on how to draw female characters out there.

A "how to" in need of more "how to"

I've been doodling on and off for years, and have just recently started to get more serious with my drawing. I was looking for a book that would give me guidance on drawing female figures because my attempts to capture the female form on paper have been quite horrible. This book does not do that. It tells you what they should look like, but doesn't tell you how to get there. There are some black and white sketches of characters already drawn with the colorized final work next to them, but NO notes on how to actually start drawing such characters.

The author touches on using Photoshop, 3D modeling programs, and writing character background stories. No offense, but I'd rather have some suggestions on how to draw the characters; not how to scan and color or spin yarns around them. I mean, the book IS titled "How To Draw...". Granted though, like every other topic in the book, the author doesn't spend much time on these topics.

Seriously, I didn't see hardly anything on how to start drawing, and building these characters up. No stick figures, and very little in the way of rough sketches.

I really feel like I wasted my money on this.

There just isn't enough "how to" in this "how to".

Good, but too much Poser

I purchased this book (without being able to see any interior pages), hoping it would be full of ideas, images, and techniques about how to draw and design "sexy cybperpunks, etc". Way too much time is spent on using Photoshop, Poser, and DAZ Studio. While these programs can be used to make excellent artwork (and I know numerous artists who use these programs), a book on "How to Draw" should not be talking about how to arrange Poser figures in a scene. Using Poser is like photography: you're arranging elements in a scene... there is no "drawing" involved.

Pretty much useless

Even as far as text books go it's a pretty dry read. And in the proofs a lot of steps are skipped and many things are left unexplained. I learned nothing from this book. I might just sound bitter, but I still got an A in the class I used this book for (on which I unfortunately had to rely heavily on this book.)

Would have been more useful if our professor ever used anything in the book, but he required this book and taught something else. Love what I am learning, but sometimes the pedagogy in the econ PhD programs could be improved to have a little correlation between books and material covered in class and on the exams...

I truly enjoyed this book. The history and in depth look at how culture and politics has affected the way women are treated in respect to their standing in the church is just what we need to understand. Mr Edwards brings it all back to the truth of what Jesus did for us as believers. He points out that we are all equal in our standing with Him and in our service to Him. Bob Edwards lives with his wife and two children in Canada. He holds degrees in Religious Education, Social Development Studies and Social Work. In 2013, he received the Delta Epsilon Chi award for intellectual achievement, Christian character and leadership ability, from the Association for Biblical Higher Education. Bob has been a Social Worker since 1996, providing psychotherapy in a variety of settings. He was the Director of Counselling Studies at a multi-denominational Bible College, teaching courses in Psychology, Sociology and Counselling. His hope is to share a vision of God’s impartial love towards women and men everywhere.

Short book on long history of patriarchy.

Patriarchal rule and gender specific hierarchy is not of God's will, but a result of the Fall. Edwards pointed out where and how Bible scholars had gone wrong: from their faulty interpretation of creation to their unwitting acceptance of cultural norms, including gender expectations, as God's divine order. He demonstrates with solid scholarship how the emergence of male domination in human culture and its subsequent persistence came from ancient Roman laws which in turn greatly influenced early Church scholars such as Augustine, who associated sexual desires with guilt and shame. Ancient cultural norms thus became mental lenses through which we see things, and since seeing is believing, we believe in what we see, and more significantly, we see in things what we believe. If we believe women to be inferior, we see inferiority in the word "Helper" when it is applied to Eve, even though there is no evidence to such a conclusion.

Edwards painstakingly compared ancient laws and Church documents to show how Church laws are a direct reflection of ancient culture. It is a study of male domination and the Church in historical context. Its legacy includes biased bible translation. Edwards pointed out the fallacy of some recent documents that keep women in a perpetual state of inferiority, such as the Danvers Statement.

Belief has consequences. As a psychotherapist, Edwards observed the impact of male domination on women as profoundly disturbing, tragic and at times downright abusive. He cites examples from the Bible to show this is not how God treats women. Finally, Edwards calls for the church to set women free.

The book is only 84 pages long, excluding references. It is easy on the eye as the lines are 1.5X spaced. There is a great deal packed in this little book.

Good starter resource

This booklet is a great starter resource for anyone interested in looking deeper into some of the 'difficult' passages regarding women's roles as leaders in the church. Edwards presents basic but insightful evidence for a Biblically-based egalitarian view, but leaves it to the reader to delve more deeply into the topic by including a more than adequate Bibliography. I would recommend this to anyone new to the issues facing women in ministry in the church today, but also to those looking for a refresher on the subject or material for presenting a study or starting a conversation with others.

insightful and scholarly call for the oppression of women to end!

This is a great little book -- full of meaty historical information and significant insight into why men feel the need to control and oppress women in the Church. The author explains how Romans 16:7, regarding Junia, has been altered, and how other passages, especially 1 Timothy 2:12, badly translated in an effort to keep women from Church leadership. He exposes the dire consequences of men blaming women for male failure, rather than managing themselves in a Christlike way.

I highly recommend it. It also provides a great list of references for further reading and study. Sadly, complimentarians may not take any notice of the types of arguments in this book. Sadly, they seem to regard this type of scholarship as a betrayal of the clear meaning of scripture (by which they mean certain English translations they particularly agree with). But, those who have a heartfelt desire to see both male and female being all they can be in Christ will be very encouraged by this enjoyable read.

Caring Assessment Tool Book

Dr. Watson is truly the expert on nursing caring and did excellent work in revising this assessment tool book. The information included is better organized and deeper than the first book edition. Plus, an added feature is the contact information of the tool creators.
If you are looking for a deep philosophical explanation of what caring is and in depth information on the theoretical basis for assessment of caring, this book probably isn't for you. However, if you are a researcher and want to know what tools are available, know about their reliability and validity, plus see what they look like, this is your book.

Great Book for Nursing Faculty

We should never forget what nurses are all about...caring. It is difficult to assess the nursing student's skill in the affective domain, but this well written book explains how to assess and measure caring. I recommend it to nursing faculty.
