As a patient I have learned a great deal from from Chef B's new book. It bypasses all the stereotypical stoner cliches' and approaches the subject matter with the seriousness and respect those using cannabis for medicinal reasons deserve. The book contains historical, scientific and culinary information that may be unknown to those who have inadvertently found themselves ill and in need of pre-western plant based medication. The recipes are a delightful supplement to Derek's YouTube cooking show. Don't think you're only getting the played out pot brownie but rather there is a pantheon of varied foods for those who must medicate often and do not wish to have a one note diet. (Clix Hemp from youtube) -if you can get past the many spelling errors and the grammar mistakes this book is pretty awesome. What I respected most about it is how it listed cannabis as a possible treatment for "premenstrual syndrome". When looking around in the cannabis community there is very little discussion about woman, their periods, and medical cannabis as a treatment. Mostly because when looking for a treatment for pain relief or an ease of mood swings women are only recommend strictly on hormonal treatments and later on if worsened, surgery. Even though the description was brief it had said more than enough. This book gave me a lot of information on natural remedies for the use of the raw plant as oppose to just getting high. It opens up options rather than just trending and I really liked that about it. It was a great purchase and a great read overall. It opened up my eyes to new possibilities and even a bit of hope for future treatment.

This is an excellent book written with love and perfect understanding of the disease from both perspectives; a doctor who specializes in Parkinson's and a patient with PD- it is this fact that makes it so wonderful. Dr. De Leon touches so many topics, answers so many questions and gives expert advice. It is written in a way that is easy to understand from patient to patient but she also gives excellent medical data/information. I have read this book twice (and both times I laughed with her- she has a great sense of humor and awesome positivism). I found myself identified various times, I am glad she touched subjects that are not the easiest to talk about and that there is little or no information elsewhere. Makes me feel a little better - knowing I am not the only one that this things happen to and that I am not going crazy- yet! LOL!
She is honest in basically saying that yes this disease sucks because of the many symptoms but yet life is not over and we have the power to live our lives the best way possible! I have read so much since my diagnosis, and have not found so much useful information in no other place like the one I have found in Parkinson's diva book! This book is exactly as it reads- "a guide to Parkinson's disease" there is so much useful information such as medication info. I love the way she speaks about her relationship with her daughter, the recipes she gives us and most of all her love for chocolate!!!!
I recommend this book to every women living with Parkinson's disease and even caregivers and even men with PD.

Thoughts from a Person with Parkinson's (PWP)

I have had Parkinson's disease for over fifteen years and have read a tremendous quantity of books on the disease. Some books do not relate to the patient and many are not readable by a nonmedical person. I can tell you from personal experience that Dr. Maria De Leon's book is in a class by itself. She has covered the entire range of current thought and knowledge about Parkinson's disease in a professional but relatable way to the common man by using personal stories and humor.

This book is packed with wisdom covering all topics relating to women with Parkinson's disease (PD) told from a doctor / patient point of view. It is written in an entertaining, interesting, professional and informative way and present much needed information on a seldom covered topic. Dr. Maria Deleon delivers in an honest and nothing - is- off- limits style. Since she is a neurologist with PD , she is an expert in the field and has thoroughly researched PD and yet can relate to the patient's viewpoint through her own experiences. There are inspirational sayings throughout the book with loads of encouraging anecdotes. One of my favorites is " Live life as if a cure is already on the way"! Since I have MS, I found many of her suggestions very valuable to my own situation. I honestly can't think of any topic relating to PD that she didn't cover in this book.so it is a great source of knowledge and encouragement to any woman or caretaker living with PD.

Lots of Stephen King fans feel that his horror novels are dwarfed by what they consider his masterpiece, the genre-bending Dark Tower books. They're a little like the sprawling epics of J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Jordan, and George Lucas, but then again, they're really like nothing else in this world (or King's).

This set collects the first three. The Gunslinger introduces the hero Roland, who must reach the Dark Tower in order to save his universe, Mid-World. There are passageways between our world and Mid-World, and a New York City boy named Jake gets shoved in front of a car by Jack Mort ("death"), is killed, and finds himself alive in Roland's world. He becomes Roland's surrogate son.

In book 2, The Drawing of the Three, Roland is attacked by marvelous, poisonous "lobstrosities" and enters our world for help. He takes heroin addict Eddie Dean from 1987 New York and Odetta Holmes from 1964 New York as his team. In a powerful time-tripping scene, Roland confronts Jack Mort and actually changes Jake's Earth history, which has heady implications for Roland's world.

In The Waste Lands, book 3, Roland and company get ensnared in a civil war in the urban waste of Lud, acquire a delightful talking pet named Oy the Bumbler, and find themselves captives of a psychotic train called Blaine the Mono.

The plot is complex, yet weirdly logical. But take warning: this series is addictive, and you may need to also buy book 4, Wizard and Glass. Otherwise, you won't know what happened when Blaine went insane with Roland's gang onboard.
