So easy... a Cave man can do it.

Very simple. Sometimes going complex doesn't work for everyone - even in the age of P90X and Insanity.Since this fitness book is coming from a man who was obviously fit enough to survive and thrive as a SAS operator - I think the SAS Personal Trainer takes the basic sound concepts of physical fitness and allows even a beginner to have a clear path to draw from.

to become really fit the military way

If you like to see how to get fit the military way this is a very great book. This one is twards the sas forces. Contrary to the US forces which emphasises a lot of upper body strenght you see here the total approach. SAS troopers need to marsh endlessly. (read about their gruelling selection course). This books tells how to get fit, using circuit training, weight programms (not used for the beach boys who just wants to look pumped up, but this program is just to be prepared for the rigours of combat). More is told to train for endurance by running, swimming, cycling and of course the famous endurance marches. At the end a total programme is given for the beginner, intermediate and the advanced. This great book is finished with telling you more about nutrition (I said nutrition NOT pills for those beach bubbles) and mental approaches. I really recommend this book together with Andrew Wheales fighting fit (which gives sas, paratrooper and royal commando programmes) and Steward Smith's the complete guide to navy seal fitness.
With those 3 books you cannot go wrong and be the fittest and mental (because of this training) toughest person.
So buy these 3 and be FIT and combat ready.

Joan E. Best SQL text ever

I was dubious about another thick, high cost textbook. I have enough incomprehensible database and SQL books - this text is different - it's so well written, it's understandable, the examples are useful, and the author points out all the little idiosyncrasies that trip up newbies. Highly recommend this book for anyone starting to learn SQL or who had trouble with SQL with another text. The datafiles on the companion website are easy to work with and it's a very practical, hands on text. Well worth the high cost.

The best SQL book I've read yet!

I typically do not have much enthusiasm for technical books published by the big "textbook publishers." Too many errors, too much "intro/overview," and bad information/advice. However, this book is a gem!

I will apologize straightaway for not writing a detailed review. I am too busy to do one. However, I think it's better that I review it now, than forget to review it at all.

Already I own several MySQL books (and some PHP/MySQL books), including Wrox and O'Reily books. Lately, however, I've only used them as a basic "reference" when building websites. Back when I tried to go through each book chapter-by-chapter, I was disappointed when I tried anything complicated for a "newbie," such as joins and virtual tables. Nothing ever worked the way the books said they would! But truly, the concepts behind joins were not explained clearly *at all* and so I was not capable of troubleshooting the problems myself.

"Oracle 11g: SQL" shines in this regard! The explanations of what happens "behind-the-scenes" when you create a join or query a virtual table are so exceptionally accurate and well-explained, that not only could I create complex joins, I was even able to find and correct errors in the online tests that were part of our "web-enhanced" college course!

Aside from the lucidity of the text, the chapter was filled with practical "cases" that at least begin to hint at some of the complex ERDs one would have to create in real life. Once in a while, the instructions for the case in one chapter did not exactly match up with what had been done to the case database in another chapter, but such errors were rather obvious and did not cause problems.

If you buy this text used, make sure you buy the online access, especially if you do not want to install Oracle on your computer. Access includes a sandbox where you can view sample databases (if your teacher has set them up), or run SQL scripts to install them (downloaded from the website or copied from the CD). This allows you to practice simple beginner-level queries or to create entire databases as you please. If you follow along with examples and cases, you will occasionally need to run scripts to alter the sample databases, anyway.

This book is *superb* both in its chapter content, exercises, examples, and cases.

A few gripes:

1) The tests (or rather the test system) often re-numbers answers so that whenever you have a choice of "both a & b" the correct answers are actually a & c or some other combination. Whenever 2 answers are correct, just always pick the one that says "a & b" and you'll be fine!

2) One of the questions about joins, which I got during the "review" (which didn't count, thank goodness), was wrong in both the wording of the question and the answer.

3) When you play *online* with "bind variables" (used to store user input from an HTML form, and submit it to the database), you must change your syntax for "Oracle Express"! The book says to precede the variable name with an ampersand ("&"); however, you must use a colon (":")!

Very useful book for parents and educators

This book provided an excellent overview as well as specific strategies for implementing differentiated instruction in the classroom. Even if this concept is completely new to you, this book will enable you to implement the strategies and activities within a relatively short time frame. It is easy to read and empowers you to make learning an individualized experience for each child in the classroom. The lists/activities are practical and easy to put in place across various learning environments. This resource book is one that you will reach for time and time again as you engage children with various skill sets. Its common sense layout and message will help you to help students to reach their maximum potential.

Extremely helpful and informative

As a new teacher I have found the information in this book extremely helpful. It's one thing to be told it's important to differentiate within your classroom and why but it's the how that becomes challenging.

This book gives practical, real-life examples that are categorized into both age groups and subject areas. It is current and includes lots of tips using technology.

Plus there is a related website with additional free information.

I'm very impressed and will used this valuable resource regularly.

Not specific enough

I thought the book had a lot of good general teaching ideas, but it had very few solid and specific ideas for differentiated instruction. There were a few examples for tiering and learning contracts, but activities such as using graphic organizers are not DI-specific strategies. The suggestions are very broad, e.g., timelines, gallery walks, political cartoons as ways to differentiate teaching social studies. But what was missing were the specifics for content, product, and process.

It is a beautiful and inspirational book

Haven't tried the patterns yet, but it is a beautiful and inspirational book. Beautiful photographs, a capsule wardrobe I truly want to try, along with a strong dose of inspiration. One note, the book does not have step by step instructions so you should have the basis down before starting it.

Good patterns, but size range is Small - Medium

This book presents a base set of garments that an average sewer can use to create an office casual wardrobe. The patterns (included in an envelope attached inside the cover of the book) are plain enough that they can be used with any level of surface embellishment to create art-to-wear garments.

The only problem with the patterns is the size range:
American, Canadian, Australian: 4 - 14
UK: 8 - 18

I don't fit in that range, so I'll need to grade the patterns to use them. I don't know if they restricted the range so they would only need to show one pattern layout, or if they don't want their designs on fat people, but I don't like it.

CHEMICAL SPARKS

I loved this story, with mystery and suspense, a murderer/arsonist, a new romance, making changes in her life and moving forward. The chemistry between Lexa and Jules keeps the pages turning. His dominance to her submission feeds both their desires and fantasies. The plot kept me captivated, the cast of characters were entertaining and the dialog was witty. The steamy romance between Jules and Lexa sizzles on the pages.

This is a action packed fast pace romance The Plot is well written and keeps you turning the pages to see what will happen next The heroine is feisty and sweet and keeps the Hero on his toes The Hero is a strong Alpha male who knows just what is needed The scenes are hot and sexy If you like your stories with suspense sexy scenes and lots of action then you don't want to miss this one

Fizzle instead of sizzle, for me.

The cover and the blurb on this story grabbed me right away, but unfortunately, the story just did not grab me. The premise was intriguing but I found the actual story to be more of a fantasy. The way Lexa and Jules met was somewhat believable, but from there on the events that took place were, in my opinion, very unlikely to happen, especially as quickly as they happened in the story. The story was almost too fast paced. It flowed well from scene to scene but I just could not relate to the characters. I think a little more backstory on them would’ve made them more believable.

I think the author tried to cram too much into a novella. There is a mystery, there is Jules and his BDSM, there is Lexa and her ex-boyfriend, Lexa’s brother and his wife, Jules’ lesbian cousin, Janie and her attraction to Lexa, and finally the romance between Jules and Lexa. There was just too much going on to be fully explored in a novella.

This book is categorized as contemporary romance but It does have snippets of BDSM in it. Both Lexa and Jules are interested in the lifestyle, supposedly Jules has been living as a Dom and Lexa is basically just curious and thinks she would like her boyfriend to dominate her a little. I would rather that part of the story not even be there, it was barely touched on and the scenes where it did come up were in no way erotic. They consisted mainly of Jules spanking Lexa for doing something he didn’t approve of and never dealt with her feelings about it or any kind of aftercare from Jules. If he loved her, it did not come through in those scenes.

The narration may also have had something to do with my inability to connect. I know the story is set in New York but the narrator’s accent was too much for me. It did not bring romance to mind in any way, very flat and unemotional.

This story had a lot of potential but, for me, it fell flat.
